The French town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer, located between Nice and Monaco, is known as a beautiful Mediterranean resort, home to the most exclusive residents, luxurious shops, restaurants and hotels and of course it’s breath-taking Port de Plaisance. In celebration of the town’s finery, we have selected our favourite places to Eat, Drink and Sleep all on the doorstep of our Sunseeker Beaulieu offices.
EAT: The African Queen, Port de Plaisance, 06310, Beaulieu sur Mer
Situated in Beaulieu’s beautiful Port de Plaisance, The African Queen is poised in a breath-taking location, surrounded by magnificent cliffs and just a stone’s throw away from the awe-inspiring collection of yachts berthed at the port.
Named “African Queen” in 1969 after the famous film by John Huston, the restaurant has built an international reputation by attracting stars and a circle of Hollywood celebrities (Leonardo diCaprio and Blake Lively were spotted there recently). Today, loyal locals have maintained the prestige of this establishment, which prides itself on its intriguing fusion of Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine.
Throughout the year, the fine cuisine takes centre stage at The African Queen. Chef Gilbert Vissian is a Mediterranean Chef like no other. Born and bred in the locality (he originally comes from Nice) he was steeped in the flavours and the traditions of Southern France from a young age. Traditional dishes such as salad nicoise, pizza and fresh sole, sea bass and sea bream are recurrent dishes on the menu, whilst sushi and sashimi add an atypical twist to the predominantly Mediterranean menu.
DRINK: Café Le Beaulieu, 45 Boulevard Marioni, 06310, Beaulieu sur Mer
The ideal place to enjoy the early evening sun with an aperitif on the large terrace, Café Le Beaulieu quickly turns into the central hub of Beaulieu-sur-Mer as the evening gets into swing.
Live music every Friday, everything from soul to jazz to funk, expect to find yourself tapping your feet along to the surprisingly collectic mix of musical acts (as well as clientele) that beckon the vibrant doors of this lively establishment.
If the vast selection of reasonably priced drinks doesn’t suffice, assiettes of charcuterie and cheese are available for those who want to proclaim their inner French whilst king-size Cheeseburgers can be devoured by those who want to make the most of the decidedly American vibe.
