As the UK capital, London boasts world-class establishments across the city. From exquisite gastronomy to quintessential hotels, London represents the pinnacle of luxury living. In celebration of all the city has to offer, Sunseeker London reveals its selection of the best places to Eat, Drink and Sleep in the capital – all just a stone’s throw away from the Sunseeker luxury yacht distributor’s Mayfair office.
EAT: Galvin Bistrot de Luxe, 66 Baker Street, London, W1U 7DJ
Michelin-starred chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have built up their own empire of family-run French restaurants, now having 7 in total, 5 of which are in London. Our favourite London dinner destination is the award-wining, original Galvin Bistrot de Luxe, with its vibrant, relaxed and informal atmosphere. With a typical Parisian modern bistrot interior, expect to see globe lighting and banquette seating set amongst intimately spaced tables covered with crisp white linen.
Chef Patron Chris Galvin offers a seasonally inspired classic French menu comprising many bistrot classics; specialities include lasagne of Dorset Crab.
Adding another dimension to this eatery, Le Cellar downstairs at the Bistrot, is a private and intimate “club-like” bar tucked away below the restaurant and can be hired exclusively for up to 22 people seated and 30 for drinks. Le Cellar is also available for pre-lunch and dinner drinks.
DRINK: Chiltern Firehouse, 1 Chiltern Street, Marylebone, London, W1U 7PA
Hotelier André Balazs opened Chiltern Firehouse in mid-February, located in the heart of London’s Marylebone. The Firehouse, one of the first purpose built fire stations in London, is the first international property in his collection of bespoke, luxury hotels which include the renowned Mercer in New York and the iconic Chateau Marmont in Hollywood, both acclaimed restorations of historic landmark buildings, and celebrated for their unique, creative clientele.
Sunseeker London recommends visiting the Firehouse Bar which is situated in the main restaurant, where guests can choose from an extensive list of cocktails and sophisticated bar snacks. The “Happy Marriage” cocktail is our favourite – a gin based drink with a splash of lavender sherbet. The Vermouth cocktails are equally popular and definitely worth trying. Whilst sipping your drink, you can appreciate 270 degree views from carefully positioned windows framing views of Marylebone and the city beyond. A prime destination for a mid-week cocktail!
SLEEP: Dukes Hotel London, 35 St James’s Place, London, SW1A 1NY
Set within a stunning Victorian town mansion nestled in the heart of St James’s, is the beautifully appointed Dukes Hotel London. Recently renovated and sporting a crisp new feel, guests at the boutique hotel can enjoy the ultimate comforts, whether dining in restaurant Thirty Six by Nigel Mendham or relaxing in the Cognac & Cigar Garden.
Dukes Hotel London retains original antique furnishings and historic paintings, whilst all the luxury bedrooms and suites, including the terraced Penthouse with its superb views over Green Park, have the very latest technology.
The Dukes Bar, where Ian Fleming got the inspiration for the famous James Bond line ‘shaken not stirred’ (somewhat a favourite for Sunseeker London) remains the most happening bar in St. James’s and is the perfect place for what many consider to be the best Martini in the world. The health club offers a 24-hour gym, steam room and full range of treatments.
